How To Make Bored of Lunch Slow Cooker Lamb Bhuna

  1. Prepare the Curry Paste: If you are using homemade curry paste, place all the curry paste ingredients into a Nutribullet or food processor and blitz to a smooth paste. Alternatively, you can finely chop the curry paste ingredients and place them directly in the slow cooker for a different texture but the same great taste.
  2. Combine Ingredients in Slow Cooker: Add the prepared curry paste, diced lamb, chopped tomatoes, salt, pepper, chopped onion, spring onions, sliced chilli, chopped coriander, crushed garlic, grated ginger, curry powder, ground cinnamon, ground turmeric, curry leaves, and oil into the slow cooker. Stir everything well to ensure all ingredients are thoroughly mixed and season to taste.
  3. Cook on Low Heat: Set your slow cooker to the low setting and cook for 7-8 hours, ensuring to stir occasionally if you are able, so the lamb becomes tender and the flavors meld together beautifully.
  4. Check and Adjust Seasoning: About halfway through the cooking time, check the seasoning and adjust if necessary. This ensures the dish develops the right balance of flavors, making it perfectly seasoned to your taste.
  5. Serve and Enjoy: Once the lamb is tender and cooked through, serve the Slow Cooker Lamb Bhuna hot, garnished with additional fresh coriander if desired. Enjoy your meal with rice or naan for a delicious and satisfying dish.

How do I make Bhuna curry paste at home?

Blend together fresh ingredients like garlic, ginger, onions, and your choice of spices to make Bhuna curry paste at home. This fresh paste will enhance the flavor of your Lamb Bhuna and you can store it in the fridge for a week.

Recipe Tips

  • Marinate the Lamb: To enhance the flavor, marinate the lamb with the curry paste for at least 2 hours before cooking.
  • Pre-Browning the Lamb: Brown the lamb pieces in a skillet before adding to the slow cooker for deeper flavor.
  • Use Fresh Spices: Always use fresh spices and herbs for the best flavor; old spices can lose their potency over time.
  • Stir Occasionally: If you have time, stir the curry occasionally during cooking to ensure even cooking and flavor distribution.

Recipe Variations

  • Vegetarian Version: Replace the lamb with hearty vegetables like potatoes, carrots, and cauliflower for a delicious vegetarian option.
  • Spicier Bhuna: Add extra chopped chillies or a pinch of cayenne pepper to the curry paste if you prefer a spicier dish.
  • Coconut Milk: Add a can of coconut milk towards the end of cooking for a creamy and slightly sweet variation of the Bhuna.
  • Different Protein: Substitute the lamb with chicken, beef, or even tofu to cater to different dietary preferences or availability.

What To Serve With Lamb Bhuna

Serve your Lamb Bhuna with delicious sides like steamed basmati rice, Rosemary Bread, and fresh cucumber raita to balance the flavors.

You can also add a tangy mango chutney and a simple spinach and tomato salad for extra freshness.

How To Store Leftover Lamb Bhuna

In The Fridge:

To store leftover Lamb Bhuna in the fridge, transfer it to an airtight container within 2 hours of cooking to keep it fresh. Place the container in the fridge, where it can be stored for up to 3 days.

In The Freezer:

You can store leftover Lamb Bhuna in the freezer by placing it in a freezer-safe container or heavy-duty freezer bags. Freeze the leftovers for up to three months for best quality and flavor.

How To Reheat Leftover Lamb Bhuna

Reheat your leftover Lamb Bhuna in a saucepan over medium heat, adding a splash of water or broth to maintain its moisture. Stir occasionally to heat it evenly, and cook until it’s hot throughout, which should take about 10-15 minutes.

You can also reheat it in the microwave by placing it in a microwave-safe dish, covering it, and heating in one-minute intervals, stirring in between until hot.
